Colonel Winston Bromley Gaffron Sr. of Brownsville died May 30, 2015 in Nashville at the age of 91. The son of Rosalie Coleman and Herman Gaffron, he was born May 13, 1924 in Flushing, NY.
Although he grew up in Lima, Peru, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Baldwin, NY, he considered himself a New Yorker. Win graduated from Columbia University and served in World War II and the Korean War in the US Marines Corps. He retired as a colonel after 33 years of active and reserve duty.
Win was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Emily Chapman Floyd Gaffron, his wife of 23 years, Ann Glass Gaffron and his brother John Milam Coleman (Jack) Gaffron.
He is survived by his children: Amy Floyd Moss (George) and Roy Floyd Jr. of Brownsville, Winston Gaffron Jr. (Judy) and Maralie Gaffron Exton (Richard) of Nashville, and Camille Gaffron of Atlanta. His granchildren are: Emily Moss Carpenter (Jamie) of Brownsville, George Moss III (Beverly) of Bells, Philip Moss (Renie) of Birmingham, Win Gaffron III (Liz) of Los Angeles, Ann Gaffron and Richard Exton Jr. of Nashville, and John Harrison III (Michelle) of St. Louis and 15 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Thursday, June 4th at the First Methodist Church of Brownsville. Visitation will be at 1pm, preceding the service. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Children's Tumor Foundation - Moss family at 120 Wall St., 16th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
