William Ray Burroughs, Sr.

William Ray “Billy” Burroughs, Sr., age 83, of Brownsville, departed this life on Monday, December 13, 2021. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 1:00 PM at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Bro. James Paris, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity UMC Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Burroughs will be conducted on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, and on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church. Billy was born on May 23, 1938, to the late Royce and Willie Mae Burroughs in Ripley, TN. He worked as trucker and as a farmer. He served his country in the United States Army. He loved his family and will be missed by them. He is survived by his wife Brenda Burroughs; two sons, William Ray Burroughs (Janna), and Ken Burroughs (Melissa) all of Nutbush, TN; two daughters, Bilinda Burroughs Baggett of Ripley, TN, and Kimberly Autry (Glenn) of Nutbush, TN. He leaves a legacy of eight grandchildren including Hunter Ray Burroughs, Jordan Nicole Burroughs, Joshua Alexander, Ryan Baggett, Kevin Baggett, Virginia Kaylee Burroughs, K.J. Baggett and Kaylee Mayfield and four great-grandchildren, Briley Eugene Baggett, Cohen Rider Baggett, Zach Evon and Aaron Evon. Pallbearers for the service will be Hunter Burroughs, Joshua Alexander, Ryan Baggett, Kevin Baggett, Warren Hayes, Bobby Crihfield and Glenn Autry. Honorary Pallbearers will be John English, Morris English and E.J. Robison. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o Janet Willis, 437 Preston Dr. Brownsville, TN 38012, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101. All arrangements and services are under the direction of Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
