Webb's Obituary
Lt. Col. Webb F. Banks (USAF RET.) age 84 of Brownsville, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 in Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt.
He was born July 8, 1931 in Carnesville, GA, to the late John Patterson Banks and Sarah Azilee Dalrymple Banks. Mr. Banks honorably served our country in the United States Air Force for twenty-four years. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired in 1977 as Lt. Colonel. That same year, he opened Railroad Salvage and operated it until 1994. To further serve our community, he was elected and served four terms as Mayor of Brownsville from 1994 until 2010. While in office, he was the recipient of the Tommie Goodwin Mayor of the Year Award in 2006 for the State of Tennessee. From 1996 until 2015, he was on the Board of Directors for First South Bank.
Mr. Banks is survived by his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Steva Barcroft Banks of Brownsville; his children, Tina Zammiello (Frank) of New York, John Banks (Shelia) of Brownsville, Trudy Brewer (Charles) of Memphis, Toni Eubanks (Wally) of Brownsville, Vince Austin of Humboldt and Dana Elmendorf (Chris) of California; two brothers, Jack Banks of Washington and Pat Banks (Lynn) of Brownsville; first cousin and longtime business associate, Larry Banks (Joan) of Brownsville. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren as well as his beloved dogs, Holli and Zoegrace.
Funeral services for Mr. Banks will be conducted Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Brownsville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Sammy Tillman and Dr. Lloyd Doyle officiating and Carlton Veirs to speak. Entombment will follow in Brownsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors. The Banks family will receive friends at the Brownsville Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to Brownsville First United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Mr. Webb F. Banks. Read More Read Less
