Virginia Cheatham (83) died on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Crestview Nursing Home. A longtime Haywood County resident, she had been a faithful member of Poplar Corner Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and provided numerous hugs to her church family. Although visitors during her last days never failed to remark that she was the sweetest person, she would often respond that she was "a tough old bird." Both descriptions are quite accurate. Virginia was comforted by the promise of joining those who have preceded her in Heaven, especially her beloved husband, Leonard Cheatham. Her children--Sherry Rhodes, Julie Taylor, Cyn Huddleston, and Lin Thompson--know that she will be missed not only by her extended surviving family but the many people she touched with her grace and kindness. Visitation is on Saturday, July 28 from 5 to 8 pm at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home on Dupree in Brownsville, TN. Services at Lea & Simmons on Sunday, July 29, at 2 pm, with burial at Brownsville Memorial Gardens. "
