Virginia Law Abbott

December 22, 1923 — July 23, 2014

Virginia's Obituary Virginia Law Abbott was born in 1923 the only child of Willard and Arlena Cox in Vienna, MO. She was raised in Vienna, Cedar City, and Jefferson City, MO. After graduating from Jefferson City High School class of 1941, she worked at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. She met a dashing fun loving lieutenant, William Law, at Ft. Leonard Wood and married him December 24, 1943. After William was sent overseas, she returned to Jefferson City and worked for a photography studio and for the rationing board. After WW-II, she and William settled in Spencer, IN. After the birth of their son, Stuart, they purchased the Galveston County Press and moved to League City, Texas where they lived until 1966 and had two more children, Diane and Lisa. During that time, Virginia worked together with William at the paper. She taught herself to be a linotypist, bookkeeper, and photographer. She was a charter member and officer of the Dickinson Country Club and loved to play golf. In 1966, the family moved to Santa Monica and then Ojai, California. They returned to Texas in 1971 when they bought the Burleson County Citizen Tribune in Caldwell, Texas. They bought a small farm and began running cattle. Virginia traveled worldwide and was an active conservative involved in local, state and national politics. In 1985 Virginia married Everette Abbott of Bryan Texas. They traveled extensively enjoying their love of their motorhome and square dancing. Virginia considered her greatest accomplishments in life to have been raising three wonderful children, six grandchildren, and one great grandson. Some of our favorite stories she told was of her son, Stuart, how proud she was of his work with NASA and the Rover. She was so proud of his accomplishments and abilities in science. She often said her daughter Diane was the most beautiful girl and had such a beautiful voice. She was so proud of all of the love and care Diane put into raising and caring for her family. Lisa, her baby girl, was her horse lover. She was very proud of Lisa getting her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and often told the story that she was the person who got Lisa's husband, Mark, into the Word of God by challenging him to complete his first personal Bible study. Private graveside services were conducted on Sunday, July 27, 2014, in Vienna, MO. Read More Read Less
