Sheriff Melvin's Obituary
Sheriff Melvin Bond, Jr. age 64 of Brownsville, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 in Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was elected as Haywood County Sheriff in 2002 and was serving his fourth term. Sheriff Bond considered serving the citizens of Haywood County the highest honor of his law enforcement career.
Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia Bond of Brownsville; three daughters, Shamel Martin of Ripley, Tinika Pitts of Henning and Chinita Dewatt of Decatur, IL.; two sons, Melvin Bond, III. of Brownsville and Eric Lynk of Milwaukee, WI.; three sisters and three brothers, Denise Norfolk of Covington, Jo Ann Blue and Paulette Howell both of Brownsville, Elvis Bond of Brownsville, Keevin Bond of Memphis and Jerry Bond of Salt Lake City, UT. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren.
Funeral services for Sheriff Melvin Bond, Jr. will be conducted Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church in Brownsville with Rev. Iran Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow in the Elam Church Cemetery. The Bond family will receive Friends Friday at Elam Missionary Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at Christ Church from Noon until the service hour.
