Sara Elizabeth Giles Bond, age 93, of the Bond’s Crossing community in Madison County, TN, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 8, 2016 in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bond Cemetery in Denmark, TN. Visitation will be Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
She was born on September 21, 1923, in Ripley, Mississippi. She was a graduate of the University Of Mississippi, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She received her Master’s in Education from Memphis State. After graduating from Ole Miss, she worked as a chemistry lab technician in Oak Ridge, TN, during the Manhattan Project. After marrying Thomas and moving to Bond’s Crossing, she worked in a doctor’s office and on the family farm. Her later career was as an elementary school teacher for 27 years at Mercer, Westover, and JB Young schools in Madison County, TN. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Haywood County.
She is survived by husband of 68 years, Thomas W. Bond; her three sons and their wives: Wilmot and Dianne Bond of Bond’s Crossing, Floyd and Corinna Bond of Franklin, TN, and David and Gaye Bond of Farragut, TN; her five grandchildren: Laura, Amy, Robert, Kelly, and Mackenzie; and her great-granddaughter, Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Earl Giles, Sr. and Margaret (Maggie) Giles, and her brothers, Clifford Giles, Jr., and Frank Giles.
