Samuel's Obituary
Samuel Allen "Ray" Permenter, age 88, died peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2011, following a short illness. Born in Bells, TN, he was preceded in death by his parents: Eugene Permenter and Martha Sanford Permenter; three sisters: Faye Miles, Lucille Yearwood and Martha Permenter; and two brothers: Wilson Permenter and Sanford Permenter. He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Jacqueline Edwards Permenter; four daughters: Elaine Clement and husband, David, Susie Lovell and husband, Charles, Martha Barry and husband, Charles, Jackie Baggett and husband Glen; one son: Gene Permenter and wife, Susan; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Permenter was a graduate of Bells High School and attended Lambuth and Memphis State Universities. He was a Navel World War II Veteran, then a career farmer, cotton ginner and businessman. He loved his land and was the Crockett County Conservation Farmer of the year in 1991. He served a lifetime of devotion to God and his family. He was a lifelong member of the Bells First United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. Mr. Permenter was a Bells Banking Company Director for 35 years, and he was a former President there. He was a member of the Bells City School Board of Education for over 20 years. He was a Crockett County Commissioner and the Crockett County Road Commissioner for a number of years. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Bells, TN from 5-8 P.M. with the Brownsville-Bells Funeral Home in charge. Visitation will resume on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M., at the church, with Bro. Terry Presson officiating. Interment will follow in Belleview Cemetery.
