Ruth Avery Glidewell, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 30, 2021, at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 3:00 PM at the Westside Church of Christ in Brownsville, TN. The family will be receiving friends at Visitation on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 12:30 PM until 3:00 PM at the church.
Ruth was born on June 9, 1944, in Crockett County. She resided in Brownsville for over 60 years. She was a faithful member of the Westside Church of Christ. She also volunteered as a Freed-Hardeman Associate, an organization who supports Christian Education and raises money for Student Scholarships at FHU. She previously worked as a school secretary for the Haywood County Board of Education.
She is survived by one son, Allan Glidewell of Young Harris, Georgia; one daughter, Amanda Neal (Bobby) of Brownsville, TN; one brother, Taylor Avery (Cindy) of Collierville, TN; two sisters, Mary Jane Argo of Alamo, TN and Agnes Trimble (Dennis) Edmond, OK. She leaves the legacy of love with four grandchildren, Seth Glidewell of Young Harris, Georgia, Laura Clark (Matt) of Prattville, AL, Avery Grace Neal and Nathan Patrick Neal, both of Brownsville, TN and one great-grandchild, James Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Taylor Avery and Voncille Vernon Avery; her husband, Pat Glidewell; two grandchildren, William Thomas Glidewell and Caleb Foster Glidewell.
Memorials may be given to the Westside Church of Christ, 3235 Hwy. 54 W., Brownsville, TN 38012. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
