Ronald Carroll Young

Ronald Carroll Young, age 90 died on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Crestview Healthcare Center in Brownsville, TN. He was born in Hardeman County on April 8, 1928 to Edgar and Lura Blanton Young.

He was educated in the Whiteville schools and graduated from Whiteville High School in 1946.

He started working for Southwest Electric Membership Cooperative in 1948 where he worked for 44 years. He retired in 1992 as District Manager of the Brownsville office. He worked for Southwest in the Whiteville area for 24 years.

He married Anita Wilson of Whiteville in 1949. They were active in the church and civic activities of Whiteville.

He served in the US Army as an instructor in the Southeastern Signal School at Fort Gordon, GA from 1954 to 1956. He and Anita returned to Whiteville to make their home until they moved to Brownsville with their family in 1972.

He was a member of Brownsville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and sang bass in the Scrap Iron Quartet.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., Thursday, April 12, 2018 in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with Entombment to follow in the Brownsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 10:30 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

Survivors include his three children, Rhonda Young, Memphis, TN, Barry Young (Kim), Hendersonville, TN and Melinda Chapman (Tommy), Brownsville, TN. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elissa Young England (Kyle), Nashville, TN, Will, Reed and Mary Ellen Chapman, all of Brownsville, TN and two great grandchildren, Ivy and Violet England. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Joyce Young and his wife of 57 years, Anita Wilson Young.
