Roger Dennis Chute, age 69, passed away peacefully in his Brownsville home on April 7, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Brian, David, Bethany, Dennis, and Taylor; and his grandsons, Aiden, Brayden, Jacob, and Matthew.
Roger was born on January 19, 1955, in Jacksonville, IL to Marion and Shirley Edwards Chute. Upon his graduation from high school, he earned his Undergraduate degree in History from Union University and his Graduate degree in Counseling from Memphis State University. After graduation, Roger joined the staff at John S. Wilder Youth Development Center as a youth counselor. Through his 42-year career, he served in various positions where he was able to positively impact the lives of an untold number of children. He rose to be the Assistant Superintendent and was a highly regarded institutional standards expert with the American Corrections Association, where he was hand-picked to perform compliance audits of youth correctional facilities throughout the country.
In his spare time, Roger enjoyed spending time at home with his family and their two dogs, Asher and Winston, while watching March Madness, the St. Louis Cardinals, or Memphis Grizzlies on TV. He was known for his quick wit, love of a spirited debate, and was an avid conversationalist. He also served as an active board member of Ballet Arts of Jackson and performed various volunteer activities in support of the Ballet Arts performances.
Roger Dennis Chute touched many, many lives through his work in youth corrections as well as his efforts in community service. He was a wonderful and attentive husband, father, leader, and advocate and he will be dearly missed.
For those that would like to pay their final respects to Roger and his family, you are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, 1280 S. Dupree Ave, Brownsville, TN 38012. In remembrance of Roger, charitable donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
