Robert Winfred Call, age 67, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at AHC Crestview Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home Chapel in Brownsville, TN at 5:00 PM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday March 10, 2020, at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at a later date.
Robert was born on April 9, 1952, to Rev. W.T. Call and Doris Simmons Call in Dyersburg, TN. In 1970, Robert graduated Haywood High School and shortly thereafter joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Robert was an aviation electronics technician. His first assignment was to Jacksonville Naval Station in Jacksonville, FL followed by an assignment to Millington Naval Station in Millington, TN. He also had a southeast Asian tour, in support of operations taking place in Vietnam, on the U.S.S. Saratoga. After separating from the service, he went on to serve his community as a deputy with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department for several years.
Robert returned to his love of electronics where he helped establish the first cable television company in Haywood county and became a master industrial electrician. His career was cut short by an unfortunate car accident that left him disabled at a very young age. Robert is preceeded in death by his parents, Rev. W.T. Call and Doris Simmons Call, his wife, Shirley Lewis Call, one brother, Earl Call, and one sister, Sandra Call Welty. Robert is survived by two children, Robert Christopher (Tabitha) Call and Carrie (Jay) McCage, all of Brownsville, TN, one stepson, Chad (Merissa) Davis, of Germantown, TN, six grandchildren, Blake, Taylor, Carlie, Molly, Brodie,and Charlotte, and one great-grandchild, Eden. He is also survived by four brothers, John (Gail) Call of Ward, AR, Forrest (Mary Jane) Call of Brownsville, TN, Tommy (Owetta) Call of Moscow, TN, and David (Liz) Call of Covington, TN, and many nieces and nephews.
