Rita Hathcock

Rita Hathcock, a beloved member of the Brownsville community, passed away peacefully at her home on March 18, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on December 13, 1950, in Brownsville, TN, to William Fred English and Rita Maxine Hicks English, Rita spent her entire life imparting joy and kindness to those around her. A visitation will be held on March 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, located at 1280 S Dupree Ave, Brownsville, TN.

Rita taught Broadcasting and Journalism at Haywood High School, which laid the foundation for a life dedicated to nurturing both knowledge and creativity. Her commitment to education reflectived of her deep-seated love for her hometown and the people within it.

She was a true embodiment of community spirit, passionately involved in activities that enriched both her life and the lives of others. Rita enjoyed spending time outdoors, often found tending to her beloved flowers and gardening. Crafting was another treasured pastime, particularly her knack for making beautiful wreaths and repurposing old furniture, which brought warmth and charm not only to her own home but also to those of her friends and family.

Rita is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Hathcock, of Brownsville, TN; her son, J.P. Hathcock (Holly) of Brownsville, TN; her daughters, Lindsey Ferrell (Tommy) of Medina, TN, and Amy Nighbert (Sean) of San Marcos, TX; and seven cherished grandchildren: Mason, Miller, and Miles Hathcock, Zach and Catherine Ferrell, and Kendall and Walker Nighbert.

She joins in eternal rest her parents, Fred and Maxine English; her brother, William Fred "Bill" English, Jr.; and her sisters, Betty Anne English and d.n. English.

Rita will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, creativity, and dedication to family and community will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
