Richard Lee Lusk

November 27, 1926 — March 16, 2018

Richard's Obituary Richard Lee Lusk, born in Greenville, South Carolina, on November 27, 1926, to Leroy Griffin Lusk, of Oconee, South Carolina, and Kansas Lavinia Lusk, of Tuckasegee, North Carolina, passed away on March 16, 2018 in Brownsville, Tennessee. The youngest of three children, his siblings were brother, Roy William Lusk, and sister, Mildred Parris, of Greenville, South Carolina. He attended Greenville High School in Greenville, South Carolina, and was a member of the Central Baptist Church Choir where he sang beautifully and with passion. Richard attended Furman University for two years before graduating with a B.A. from Texas Christian University in Forth Worth, Texas. He earned his M. Div. from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he met his wife of 64 years, Ida Eudocia Bennett Lusk, of Stanton, Tennessee. They were married on June 26, 1953 at Stanton Baptist Church. Richard Lusk lived a rich and full life dedicated to God. Saved by faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 10, he first felt the call to full-time Christian service at the age of 24 and was appointed by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board (now the International Mission Board) as a missionary to Hong Kong in 1961. Over his missionary career that spanned 37 years, Richard Lusk was pastor of the Kowloon Baptist Church, the Clearwater Bay Chapel, Macau Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church in Taiwan, and was a circuit evangelist throughout Baguio and surrounding areas of the Philippines. After returning to the States for retirement, he served as interim pastor of the Stanton Baptist Church in Stanton, Tennessee. He was dedicated, loving and hard working. In fact, his Chinese name, Loh Shu Gei, means laboring to build upon the foundation of Christ. Richard was fun and larger than life. His presence filled a room and his laughter could shake the walls. He loved spicy food, really any food, and he loved to unsettle his five daughters with the strange things he ate. Richard liked to paint, practiced Chinese calligraphy, and loved to sing and sometimes play the piano. He loved games, loved to roughhouse and wrestle with his daughters, and played dominoes with his wife until the end. He was super strong and was a super man to his family who will miss him terribly, but they are comforted that he is with his Savior, and they will see him again in Heaven. Richard is survived by his wife, Ida Eudocia Bennett Lusk, and their five girls, their spouses, and grandchildren: Miriam Rebekah Lusk Berry, of Brownsville, Tennessee; grandson, Matthew Berry, of Memphis, Tennessee; Sylvia Ruth Lusk Harwell and her husband, Mark Harwell, of Brownsville, Tennessee; grandson, Dan Harwell, and his wife, Allison Cary Harwell, of Jackson, Tennessee; Florence Lavinia Lusk and her husband, Edward Brainard, of Freeport, Maine; grandson, Bennett Brainard, of Boston, Massachusetts; Naomi Grace Lusk Lay and husband, David Lay, of Burnsville, North Carolina; Nancy Renee Lusk Tanneberg, husband, Stephen Tanneberg, and grandson, Jesse Tanneberg, of Savannah, Georgia. He is also survived by his niece, Pam Parris Allen, her husband, Mike Allen, of Cary, North Carolina, and nephew, Randy Parris of Burlington, North Carolina. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Harwell, Edward Brainard, David Lay, Stephen Tanneberg, Dan Harwell, Matthew Berry, Bennett Brainard and Jesse Tanneberg. The celebration of his home-going was conducted Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Brownsville Baptist Church, Brownsville, Tennessee with Bro. Bob Connerley and Bro. Bob Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Brownsville Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the Church on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
