Richard G. Bailey, age 78, was born on March 17, 1946, in New Albany, MS, departed this life peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN.   A memorial service to honor Richard’s life will be held on January 18, 2025, at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN, beginning at 1:00 PM, with Bro. Bob Connerly officiating and John O. Plonk, III, Pres. & C.E.O. of Foust Textiles, Inc. speaking. There will be a visitation from 12:00 PM until the service hour at 1:00 PM.  He was a dedicated businessman and an ardent participant in the textile industry, notably his family owned five Hancock Fabric stores, and he contributed his expertise in sales at Foust Textiles, Inc. in Kings Mountain, NC.

Richard's personality was one of warmth and openness; he never met a stranger and loved to engage in conversation. His approachable nature and love for storytelling endeared him to many, making every interaction memorable, and as he would say, "It's OK".

Beyond his career, Richard was a masterful seamstress, showcasing his creativity and skill in every project he undertook. He had a passion for travel and enjoyed the great outdoors through camping, as well as the delightful game of golf. His love for dancing and passion for blues music were significant aspects of his vibrant life.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 30 years, Pat Bailey. He leaves behind two stepsons, Mike Coburn (Jackie) and Ken Coburn; one stepdaughter, LeAnn Gustafson (Brian); four sisters, Mary Wilson (Mitch), Sandra Winters (David), Betty Bailey, and Karen Myers; his five grandchildren, Josh Coburn (Savannah), Jon Coburn (Marley), George McRae (Ryan), Tillman McRae (Kalyn), and Grace Gustafson; as well as his six great grandchildren, Gia Coburn, Cora Mae Coburn, Conley Coburn, Carson Coburn, Gracyn Horner, and Baker McCraw.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Bailey and Mary Evelyn LaFrain Bailey.

Richard G. Bailey will be missed dearly and remembered for his kindness, conversation, and the joys he brought into the lives of those around him.  The family has requested memorials be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN  38148-0142.  All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
