Rex Barnes, age 75, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 4, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Mike Young and Bro. Bobby Russ officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be conducted Monday, January 4, 2021 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
Rex was born on October 3, 1945 to Lindell and Geneva Barnes. He was married to his lovely wife Jackie for 44 years. He loved the Lord and found great purpose and meaning in his relationship with the Lord and the church. He was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN. He worked as a supervisor at Lasco Fittings, Inc. He was a Mason for over 50 years and taught hunter safety for 33 years. He faithfully served in the United States Army and in the National Guard. He loved hunting and loved to bale hay. He also enjoyed horses and cattle.
He is survived by his wife Jackie Barnes and one son, Timothy “Timmy” Barnes, both of Brownsville, TN; one grandchild, Madison Barnes; one brother, Phillip Barnes (Joanita) of Parsons, TN; one sister, Carolyn Fraser (Frank) of Brownsville, TN; one sister-in-law Carol Barnes of Humboldt, TN; two uncles, William and Faye Buie of Paris, TN and Kenneth and Marsha Buie of Jackson, TN.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James Paul Barnes and Michael Lindell Barnes; his parents, Lindell Harding Barnes and Geneva Buie Barnes; one brother, Darrell Barnes and one sister, Kathy Barnes Castellaw.
Pallbearers for the service are Norris Whitehead, Steve Whitehead, Wayne Oswald, Dewayne Autry, Bradley Jones, and Taylor Butterworth. Honorary Pallbearers are Butch Lefave, Joe Matheney, David Prine, Ray Ellington, Tom Miller and the men of Zion Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1733 Upper Zion Rd., Brownsville, TN 38012. All services and arrangements are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
