Raymond Russell, age 77, born on November 10, 1947, in Haywood County, passed away on November 12, 2024, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. He was a dedicated public servant and a beloved family man, known for his unwavering commitment to both his community and his loved ones.
Raymond devoted 16 years as the Sheriff of Haywood County, where he was respected for his leadership and dedication to ensuring the safety and integrity of the community he served. Following his impactful career in law enforcement, he spent 12 years providing security at Pictsweet, where his sense of duty continued to shine through.
Raymond was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church. Throughout his life, Raymond held his family dear and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, creating countless memories that will be carried on by his loved ones for years to come.
Raymond is survived by his son, Jeff Russell (Andrea) of Bells, TN; his daughters, Jessica McRae (Kinney) of Brownsville, TN, Lauren Moore (Thomas) of Denmark, TN, and Lindsey Petty (Michael) of Mercer, TN. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary Perry (Billy) of Brownsville, TN, and Doris Ann Herron (Ronnie) of Paducah, KY, as well as 11 grandchildren, Tyler Russell (Brandi), J.T. Russell, Russ Joyner, Baker Joyner, Archer Joyner, Hailea Moore, Austin Moore, Avery Petty, Declan Pence, George McRae (Ryan) and Tillman McRae (Kalyn). He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed by his presence in their lives.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Fray Russell and Frances Sanders Russell, and his sister, Opal Oliver. Though he is now at rest, the impact of his life and service will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service to honor Raymond’s life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Lonnie Robinson and Bro. Mark Howard officiating. The burial will follow at Zion Methodist Church Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10:30 AM until the service time at 12:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home. The family has requested that memorials be made to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Sherri Yanakopulos, 341 Baynes Rd., Brownsville, TN 38012.
