Newton "Buddy"'s Obituary
Newton “Buddy” Daniel Stephens went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at his residence.
Buddy was born in Crockett County on December 3, 1933. He grew up in the Gumflat-Midway Community. He was the son of the late Donald H. Stephens and Bessie Carter Stephens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Phillip D. Stephens, and brother Terry D. Stephens.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 61 years Janell Davis Stephens; three daughters, Lisa (Ricci) Lynn, Kimberly (Cayce) Nanney, and Leigh Hayes; four brothers, Cooper (Mary Helen) Stephens, Lacy (Wanda) Stephens, Mark (Janice) Stephens, Keller Stephens; three sisters, Alice Watson, Merle Bailey and June (Bill) Emerson; five grandsons, Drew Nanney, Caleb Nanney, Tyler (Haley) Hayes, Jordan Lynn, and Brad (Tracy) Lynn. Granddaughter Erin (Kelsey) Schweitzer, and five great grandchildren.
Buddy was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a retired Naval Chief Petty Officer. Buddy served in the military 34 years in both Active Duty and Active Reserve status.
Buddy was a retired Medical Administration Officer with the US Department of Veteran Affairs. He was a member of the American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association, NRA, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Past Commander.
Buddy was an avid reader, gardener, enjoyed fishing, and also attending and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a lifelong fan of the Tennessee “VOLS.”

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bells Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Davis officiating. Eulogy will be by Mark Stephens. Burial will follow at Gadsden Methodist Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
The Stephens family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Bells Funeral Home and again on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the Service Hour.
