Mary Sanford Graham Myatt, 102 of Memphis, Tennessee died October 21, 2014. She was born in Meridian, Mississippi on November 4, 1911, to Sanford Martin Graham and Mary Emma Hardy Graham. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lewis Jackson Myatt, a son, Sanford Myatt, M.D., two brothers: Judge Jessee Graham and Hardy Graham. A classical language and music major, she graduated from Mississippi State College for Women where she served on the Board of Directors for many years. As a college student, she also studied at Chautauqua Institute in Chautauqua, New York. In May of 2014 she was honored by Watauga Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution for 83 years of continuous membership, the longest standing member in the state of Tennessee. She was also an active member of the Beethoven Club, DeShazo Music Circle and St. Lukes Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Women's Bible Studies for many years. Known as a person of strong faith, intelligence and integrity, her passions were family, music, Bible Study and her gardens at the family home on Tuckahoe. She is survived by two daughters: Mary Lewis Casey of Memphis, Tennessee and Martha Myatt Hooper and husband, C. Thomas Hooper III of Brownsville, Tennessee. Eight grandchildren: Mary Lane Campbell and husband, Casey, Dev Butler and wife, Susan, Graham Butler and wife, Florentine, Ashley McClure and husband Mark, Allyson Proctor and husband, Pat, Anne Sanford French and husband, Mark, Tom Hooper and wife, Collins and Sandy Hooper, twenty great-grandchildren and two nephews, Hardy Graham and Newell Graham. She also leaves her friend and longtime caregiver, Lorraine Wilks. Graveside Services will be Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 9:15 A.M. in Byhalia Cemetery in Byhalia, Mississippi, followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel of St. Lukes Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 A.M. Memorials contributions are requested for St. Lukes Methodist Church, 480 S. Highland Street, Memphis, TN 38111. Arrangements are under the direction of Lea and Simmons Funeral Home. 731-772-8880
