Mary Alice's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Alice Elrod age 77, passed away on Monday October 26, 2015 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was born on October 8, 1938 in Haywood County, TN to the late Jesse James Freels and Susie Bell Pittman Freels. Mrs. Elrod enjoyed traveling and loving her family. She was a faithful member of the Zion Baptist Church, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Albert Elrod; two brothers: J.W. and Joe Freels; two sisters: Ruby Freels and Dorothy Austin; and two grandchildren: Timothy Leon Phillips and Allison Norvelle Elrod. Survivors are two sons: Tommy Elrod and wife Judy of Bolivar, Charles Elrod and wife Barbara of Brownsville; three daughters: Denise Phillips and husband Jimmy of Jackson, Norma Austin and husband Jessie of Bells, and Belinda Potter of Nashville, TN; three sisters: Frances Elrod, Barbara Kirkland and Edna Forsythe. She leaves a legacy of twelve grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Elrod will be conducted on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Harmony Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Russ and Bro. Eddie Martin officiating. Brownsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments. Burial will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Brownsville, TN. The Elrod family will receive friends at the Chapel of the Brownsville Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers are Jason Phillips, Justin Phillips, Chris Austin, Thomas Elrod, Jonathan Elrod, Randall Elrod, Timothy Potter, T. J. Elrod and Caleb Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Mrs. Elrod's great-grandsons. The Elrod Family requests memorials to be sent to the Brownsville, Haywood County Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.
