Marion L. Wright, 94, died January 11, 2011 at Jackson General Hospital after a prolonged illness.
He was born in Shannon, MS on May 21, 1916 and later moved to Osceola, AR. He lived in Memphis for 36 years before moving to Brownsville, TN. He loved sports and was a participant in his youth. He ran and won the Arkansas State Mile in 1934.
During WWII, he worked in the shipyards in Houston, TX. He worked in Southern Store Fixtures for many years. In his retirement in his 80's, he worked for InSouth Bank of Brownsville.
He was an active member and elder emeritus of First Presbyterian Church and a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. He was past president of the Brownsville Friends of the Library.
He is survived by Dorris, his wife of 73 years; a son: Doug Wright (Jane) of Tallahassee, FL; a daughter: Gail Hopper (Benny) of Jackson, TN; a sister: Mildred Briggs of Paris, TN; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was a true "Southern Gentleman" and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be Friday, January 14, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 AM, Saturday, January 15, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, TN.
Burial will follow at 2 PM, Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Memorial Park in Memphis.
