Mr. Lynn Jackson Shaw, aged 78 years, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at his home in Brownsville, Tennessee. Visitation for Mr. Shaw will be held in the chapel of Lea and Simmons Funeral Home on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with funeral services to follow. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Shaw was a businessman and historian who held various offices and received many local and national honors. He served as Haywood County Historian, President of the Haywood County Historical Society, and founder and curator of the Haywood County Museum for many years, and was past president of the Brownsville Jaycees and member of the Order of Knights of Pythias. Mr. Shaw established the local Sons of Confederate Veterans, Colonel W.L. Duckworth Camp, and was a National Commander of both the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Military Order of the Stars and Bars as well as a reenactor. He was a member of the Society of the War of 1812, the Sons of the Revolution, and the George Washington Family Descendants. Mr. Shaw was presented with the keys of the city in eleven Southern states and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a Lieutenant Colonel, Aide-De-Camp in the state of Georgia.
Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents, C. Battle Shaw, Sr. and Mae Jackson Shaw, and his sisters, Bess Shaw Adkins, and Chloe Shaw Lloyd. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Bond Shaw and two nieces, Beth Tripp (Billy) and Jane Hayes (Warren). Memorials may be made to Brownsville Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, or the Haywood County Historical Society, P.O. Box 207, Brownsville, Tennessee.
