Lyde Dancy Miller

Lyde Dancy Miller, age 91, a resident of Atoka, TN, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, surrounded by her family, friends and her beloved pet, Cricket. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Oakwood Cemetery in Brownsville, TN with Rev. Parker Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. 

Lyde was born on July 24, 1933, to Louis and Margaret Dancy of Stanton, TN. They soon moved to Covington, TN, where she graduated from Byars Hall High School. Lyde loved to sing and was always in the choir, with her favorite being the Bellevue Baptist Christmas Tree. She was also proud to volunteer for Baptist Hospital and the Wonders Exhibits in Memphis. 

Lyde was fond of bright bursts of color, especially yellow and red, and added them all around their hobby farm. After long days of hard work on the farm, she and her late husband of 62 years, Clopton Miller enjoyed taking long drives and yes, they were “those” Sunday drivers you may have gotten behind a time or two. She was known to all for thoroughly enjoying a good conversation, and there’s no doubt she is telling some good stories to her loved ones in Heaven. 

She is survived by her children, John Clopton Miller (Leigh) of Collierville, TN, and Camille Ennis (Ron) of Ellettsville, IN; two sisters, Emily Waggener of Covington, TN, and Suzanne Veerkamp of Sun City, FL; five grandchildren, Megan Gold (Michael), Anna Evans (Levi), Charlie Ennis (Halie), Kat Ennis (Destinee) and Josh Miller, and six great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clopton Miller; her parents, Louis and Margaret Dancy and one sister, Bette Crane. 

Pallbearers for the service will be Josh Miller, Kat Ennis, Charlie Ennis, Levi Evans, Scott Jobe and Michael Gold. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Rosemark Presbyterian Church, 8592 E. Kerrville Rosemark Rd., Millington, TN 38053, or to the charity of the donor’s choice. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
