Louise Newman Kennedy of Brownsville, TN departed this life on June 28, 2017 to be with the Lord. A member of Macedonia Baptist Church, she was 94. For her, it was a blessed release from Alzheimer’s disease which she had endured for 7 years.
Louise was born March 10, 1923 in Nettleton, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cuthbirt Newman and Bessie Woodard Newman as well as her brother, Elton Newman. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, L.D. Kennedy. He is a retired professor emeritus of Campbellsville University and former pastor of several churches in Kentucky and Tennessee, including Macedonia Baptist and Calvary Baptist Churches. Louise served the Lord faithfully alongside her husband in each pastorate. She is also survived by her children, Mark (Julie) Kennedy, Ripley, TN, Karis (Carl) Moore, Overland Park, KS, Joel Kennedy, Henderson, KY, and stepdaughter, Silvia (Rick) Seares, Napa, CA, grandchildren, Justin Hamerlinck, Megan Moore, Ryan Moore and Evan Kennedy.
She beautifully illustrated Paul’s description of a “virtuous woman given to hospitality.” To her home, she welcomed family and friends, pastors, missionaries, and international students from the nearby college. Louise was gentle, wise and always ready to offer assistance and an encouraging word to those around her. She surrounded herself with flowers, photo albums of family and especially loved cooking for her family and spending time outside on her porch swing bird watching and working in her vegetable and flower gardens.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Staff of Sugar Creek Assisted Living in Brownsville and Avalon Hospice for their constant, loving care during Louise’s illness.
Funeral Services will be conducted by Louise’s nephew, Rev. Roger Alford, on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with visitation preceding from 9:00 – 10:45 A.M. in the Macedonia Baptist Church, Ripley, TN. A private burial will follow in the Edith Cemetery, Ripley, TN. The family requests donations to the Gideon’s International for memorial Bibles, P.O. Box 544, Brownsville, TN or the Macedonia Baptist Church, 6950 Edith-Nankipoo Rd., Ripley, TN 38063.
