Linda Lane Farmer

June 16, 1945 — August 7, 2024

Memphis, TN

Linda Lane Farmer, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Memphis, TN on Wednesday, August 7, after a short battle with cancer.

Linda was born in Brownsville, TN, on June 16, 1945. She spent her early years in Denver and Los Angeles and her middle school and junior high years in Vancouver, BC. Her family relocated to Bronxville, NY, where she attended high school and developed a love for New York City as she and her friends would ride the train into the city as often as they were allowed. Regardless of where they lived, Linda always spent her summers in Brownsville, TN with her grandparents, Elizabeth and Marion Thornton, her childhood friends, and her extended family at the annual Tabernacle Kinfolks Camp Meeting.

After graduating from Bronxville High School, Linda moved south and attended Newcomb College (Tulane) in New Orleans, LA, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated from The University of Memphis with a BA in history and later received her paralegal certification.

Linda was an avid tennis and bridge player, world traveler, voracious reader, college football fanatic, and appreciated several cups of strong, black coffee. Her greatest joy, however, was being able to stay home and raise her four children. Once they were grown, she enjoyed many years welcoming clients and co-workers as she worked the front desk at Glankler Brown, PLLC and Stephens Incorporated.

Linda enjoyed participating with the Carnival Memphis Association festivities. She served as a Committee Chairman and Board Member and was a crowned Duchess of the Grand Krewe of Ennead.

Linda is survived by her four children, Michael Nicholas (Suzanne), Elizabeth Crowe (Jay), Susan Dennis (James), Chris Nicholas (Stephanie), eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. As a Memphian for the last 45 years, she has many friends and colleagues whom she cherished and also considered to be family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman Lane and Elizabeth “Betsy” Thornton Lane Battle, and her brother, Norman Lane, Jr.

She will be laid to rest at Tabernacle Cemetery on the Taylors of Tabernacle Campground in Brownsville, TN, on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM with Dr. Joe Thornton officiating the graveside service. There will be a visitation with family on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM in Memphis at 5418 Collingwood Cove, Memphis, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Camp Meeting Association, c/o Suzanna Martinez, 770 Ross Road, Brownsville, TN, 38012. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
