Jesse "Larry" Joyner born Jan. 21, 1942 to parents Floyd and Doris Edwards Joyner in Haywood County TN. He is preceded in death by both parents and his precious daughter Linda Michelle "Petey" Ryan.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Linda Stavely Joyner (Brownsville TN), beloved daughter Marti Joyner Alford, son-in-law Dan Alford (Cordova TN), brother Billy D. Joyner (Brownsville TN), two grandsons Ashley Ryan and Scotty Ryan (Mannington WV), sister-in-law Robbie Hendrix (Brownsville), brother-in-law Tommy Stavely (Alabama). He also leaves his "baby", BooBoo, his little 8yr old yorkie and his grandpets Henri, Buddy and Herman.
Larry worked for Wells Lamont corporation for 37 years in many capacities: starting in Brownsville TN as the receiving clerk and transferring to Memphis TN in 1970 as the dress division supervisor, then receiving supervisor, private carriage supervisor and customer service supervisor. He retired from Wells Lamont in 1998 and worked as a Memphis City Schools bus driver for 4 years.
He was an avid fisherman and loved nothing more than fishing in the Hatchie Reserve with his brother Bill. He also loved to carry his daughter Marti to fish in the ponds on the family farm and at Journeys End. One of his favorite fishing tales was several years ago. He, George and Tommy Stavely went fishing in the biggest Twin Lake in Brownsville. George and he caught several large slab crappies and put them in a new wire basket. As they got ready to leave George said "Let me see those fish one more time". Tommy pulled the basket up to show their prize fish and they all fell out of the bottom of the basket and back into the lake. From then on Larry made sure that he wired the bottom of the basket firmly shut.
He had moved back to Brownsville in October 2014 after living in Memphis for 44 years, which had always been his dream and goal.
He will be remembered as a kind and generous man who always sought to help others in any way he could, often willing to make personal and family sacrifices so that he could help others whose situations were more pressing than his own.
His visitation will be on Wednesday April 22nd from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lea and Simmons funeral home in Brownsville TN. Funeral services will be at the same location on Thursday April 23rd at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens in Brownsville TN.
