Katie McAdams

December 15, 1921 — May 6, 2014

Lyde Kate (Katie) Lewis McAdams , age 92 - went home to her Heavenly Father on May 6, 2014. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, she grew up in the Belle Eagle community. The youngest daughter of the late James Rufus Lewis and Gertie Rodgers Lewis, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Annie Laura Lewis Wells, and brothers, Will Thomas Lewis, Samuel Bert Lewis, and James Arthur Lewis. Married to the late James Berlin McAdams, Sr, for almost 50 years, she was the loving mother to James (Jim) Berlin McAdams, Jr, (Jan) of Brownsville, TN and her daughter, Annie Laura McAdams Hillis (Darrell) of Brentwood, TN; Grandchildren Andrew Michael Hillis and James Berlin McAdams III (Trey) and Molly Moore McAdams. Also many devoted nieces and nephews. Active in the community all her life, Girl Scout Leader, Board Member of the Mental Health Association, Meals on Wheels and D.A.R.E, and American Legion Auxiliary to name a few. She was awarded Citizen Volunteer of the Month on several occasions by these organizations. As a young person she was active at Zion Methodist, serving as Treasurer when the current church was built. Upon her marriage, she joined Brownsville Baptist Church where she taught children for years in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her most important work was serving the Lord behind the scenes: she quietly fed people, and visited the sick and lonely and forgotten. She was truly the "feet and hands of Christ." Thanks to the delightful, dedicated and loving staff and precious friends at Sugar Creek. You became family in the almost 10 years she resided there. Thanks also, to the tireless staff at Crestview as you tended to the needs of our entire family in her last days. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Brownsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home. The family request that memorials be made to any Mission Organization of your choice.
