Jose Arizmendi, Sr.

August 12, 1945 — April 20, 2025

Brownsville

Jose Jaime "Mr. Joe" Arizmendi, age 79, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Jackson, TN. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Mr. Joe was known for his unwavering work ethic and deep love for his family.

Born on August 12, 1945, in Villaldama, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Jose Jaime Arizmendi was the third son of Filberto Arizmendi and Soledad Melchor Arizmendi and eighth born of eleven children. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and carried those values with him throughout his life.

Mr. Joe served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His military service was a source of great pride to him and reflected his deep commitment to this country. One of the proudest moments of his life came when he officially became a United States citizen in 2001 —a milestone that symbolized both his dedication and gratitude to the nation he served.

After his military service, Mr. Joe built a long-standing career at Lasco, where he worked diligently for forty years before retiring. Even after retirement, his strong work ethic led him to continue working at Sam’s Club. Whether on the job or at home, Mr. Joe was known as a hardworking man who never shied away from responsibility.

Outside of work, Mr. Joe found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful routines. He loved working on cars and spending time outdoors cutting grass—activities that brought him peace and satisfaction. He coached baseball for many years in Brownsville when his children were growing up as well. A man of faith, he worshiped regularly at St. John's Catholic Church in Brownsville and later at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Jackson.

Family was central to Mr. Joe’s life. He cherished every moment spent with them—especially outings to restaurants where laughter and stories were shared over meals. He took great pride in watching sports with loved ones and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. Baseball, football, and soccer games were not just pastimes but opportunities for connection with those he held dear.

Mr. Joe is survived by his beloved wife Teresa Zavala Arizmendi; daughter Patricia Michelle Lyles; sons Jose Jaime Arizmendi II (Calli Carpenter) and Marc Steven Arizmendi (Kristi Williams); grandsons Marc Alexander Arizmendi and Carson Carpenter; and sisters Maria del Carmen Solis, Evelia Valdez, Maria Enriqueta Arizmendi, Gilma Yolanda Gomez, and Maria Magdalena Arizmendi.

He was preceded in death by his parents Filberto Arizmendi and Soledad Melchor Arizmendi; brothers Carlos Arizmendi and Filberto Arizmendi II; and sisters Ana Maria Lozano, Martha Guadalupe Arizmendi, and Teresa de Jesus Cortinas.
