Joan Nuckolls Byrum, 57, passed away on January 23, 2016 at her home in Lexington, TN. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 30, 2016 in the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Chester County. A visitation with her family will be held Friday, January 29, 2016 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. in the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home.
Joan was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, a faithful friend, and an accomplished engineer. She was a high school cheerleader at Tennessee Academy in Brownsville, and brought the same joyful, encouraging spirit to everything she did. She earned a BSc in engineering from the University of Memphis, and an MBA from Union University. She loved a good book and spontaneous trips. She delighted in her grandchildren. In the final season of her life she pushed forward bravely, trusting in the Lord for strength, and committing herself to loving her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe S. Nuckolls. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Allen W. Byrum, of Lexington, TN; her mother, Ann M. Nuckolls of Brownsville, TN; and children, Allison Proffitt (Kyle) of Nashville, TN; and Jonathan Byrum (Kathryn) of Starkville, MS; and four grandchildren: Mary Kathryn and Anne Camp Byrum; and Josephine Love and Jude Byrum Proffitt.
