Jean Mize's Obituary
Mrs. Jean Mize Cobb age 92 of Brownsville, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her residence.
She was born July 27, 1925 in Somerville to the late Thomas Hawkins and Myrtle McDowell Hawkins. Mrs. Cobb was the secretary of the District Superintendents office of the Methodist Conference and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brownsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, T.J. Mize and Kenneth Cobb; daughter, Carolyn Ann Hughes; brother and sister, Thomas Hawkins and Otaline Culver.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Jean Bishop of Brownsville and Sarajane Fernandez and husband Gaspar of Florida; two brothers, Herman Hawkins of Texas and Bobby Hawkins of Louisiana. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Max Bishop and wife Sabrina, Brandon Bishop and wife Monique, James Tyson and wife Andrea, Ethan Tyson and wife Chau, Tommy Tyson, Jamie Hughes and wife Christie and Kelly Handy and husband Kevin as well as eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cobb were conducted Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Roger Penn officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery. The Cobb family received friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
