Janelle's Obituary
Mom was born October 3, 1939 in Brownsville, TN to Eugene Darnaby and Mary (Coburn) Darnaby. She was carried away by the angels to paradise on Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Charleston, SC after her body relinquished her beautiful spirit. In paradise she is now reunited with her best friend who also was her earthly husband of fifty-four years, Wayne. She was the last of her siblings on this earth, and leaves behind her three children, five grand-daughters, and two great grandchildren. She was comforted with the presence of her three children her last week on this earth.
Her children have grown to praise her for Mom did a fabulous job. Joni Estes (Tim) of Franklin, TN, Timmy Glasshof (Angela) of Farmington, MO, and Brian Glasshof (Julie) of Moncks Corner, SC are all happily married with wonderful families. We are so very grateful for the blessings the Lord provided us through our parents.
She was always proud of her five granddaughters. Brittny Estes, Kristie (Pickard) and Courtney Glasshof, and Rya and Reese Glasshof always made their Grammy / Maw Maw / Granny flash her famous smile and bust out her infectious cackle. She believed in their unlimited potential, and cherished the updates of their daily journeys. The Lord overflowed her cup with the addition of two great-grandchildren, Addison and Braylen, whom she so enjoyed seeing the pictures and videos of when time and distance separated her from them.
Mom was baptized into Christ as a young lady at Cliff Creek church of Christ in Haywood County, TN. Through her faith and by God's grace she adorned herself with unfading inward beauty, precious to God, in submission to our Dad whom she had taught the Gospel through her words and conduct. She was also a teacher of young children, and would teach the younger women how to live in obedience to God and to love. In meekness she was always ready to provide the answer of the hope of her calling. A spiritual resource of knowledge, all too eager to share and to glean from those who shared with her. She loved to sing gospel songs, and would encourage others to stay after services to sing old favorites. But her all-time favorite was to study God’s word and listen to great preaching. She was so proud her oldest son became a preacher of that Gospel, her younger an elder in the Lord’s church, and her daughter kind and gentle full of sweetness.
Mom was a servant in life. She served the mentally handicapped working at Arlington Developmental Center, spearheaded mainstreaming in public schools throughout West Tennessee, and worked in various Group Homes. She would bring home those who did not have family so they could enjoy the holidays with her own. She was often the oasis in the desert for those suffering hard times, and would never quite her compassion for those in need, she was known for her love to help others. Her life prepared her to provide our father with a wonderful life, even when his health failed him and put tremendous challenges upon her. She passed with flying colors! She would also serve as a Friend of the Library, Meals on Wheels worker, and mentor fifth and six graders for the local schools.
But to know her was to smile. Her smile and laughter were contagious. She was always happy, and made sure you were too, as life was here for the living. Opportunities rarely escaped, as she was always ready at the drop of one of her many hats to hit the road for short, and not so short, adventures. On these adventures she never met a stranger, whether finding an Irishmen who knew her favorite Irish folk song, connecting strangers to friends of friends of friends, or simply finding something, anything, in common. She loved sports and hooping and hollering were often heard at her family’s games, or while watching one of her favorite teams. She loved games of any kind just to have fun with others. Whether old friend or new, you never left the encounter without a tale to tale, and to do so with laughter and joy.
She loved immensely and expressed this through her service to others. Her joy was grounded in faith in our God which enabled a peace that surpassed understanding. She was patient in life’s challenges, always kind-hearted and gentle even when negotiating those challenges. She was full of goodness and always faithful to her husband, family, friends, church, and our God. She learned from life’s lessons the self-control to balance with her spontaneity and free spirit. In the end, she had become the produce of her efforts of study and devotion, a living example of the Spirit’s fruit.
We are thankful that we had a front row seat!
Joni, Tim, and Brian
