Funeral services for Jane Ann Phelan Myatt, age 89, of Jackson will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 12, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville, TN with Bill Myatt and Lee Tankersley, officiating. Burial will follow in Brownsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M., Thursday, February 11, 2010 in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Myatt was born on February 23, 1920, in Trenton, TN. The daughter of the late Horace Glenn Phelan and Annie Luckey Phelan, she graduated from Jackson High School in 1938. She married the late William Joseph Myatt of Jackson on November 15, 1947. She lived in Brownsville until 1998, when she moved to Jackson to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She and her brother lived together for the past 10 years, loving and caring for each other. She was a member of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church in Jackson.
While she lived in Brownsville, she was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as church secretary. She was a long-time Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, the Elizabeth Dumas Sunday school class, and the United Methodist Women, serving as president and treasurer. She was the administrative assistant to the President of Brownsville Bank for 10 years and was also an active member of the Sixth Review Club. She served as a Cub Scout and Brownie Scout leader when her children were young. During World War II , she served as secretary in the Office of the Surgeon General in Washington, DC. She was best known for her unconditional love toward others, her commitment to prayer, and her sweet spirit.
Survivors include her son, Sam (Dottie) Myatt, and her daughter, Molly (Mike) Gardner, both of Jackson: grandchildren Anna (Cody) Kail, Lauren Gardner, Kate Gardner, Lili (Lee) Tankersley, Janie (Ben) Williams, all of Jackson, and Bill (Melanie) Myatt of Chicago; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Horace Glenn Phelan, Jr. of Jackson; and her aunt, Virgie Morse of Medina.
