James Laverne Meadows, fondly known as "Rooster," age 79 was born on October 26, 1945, in Arlington, Tennessee. He departed this life on January 23, 2025, at his residence in Braden, TN, surrounded by his loving family.
A proud Republican and veteran, James served for four years in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped much of his character and dedication to service. Following his military tenure, he forged a successful career as a lineman at AT&T, from where he eventually retired.
Throughout his life, James was well-regarded as the backbone of the Meadows family. His loving and generous spirit was evident in all he did; he was a man who loved doing for others and cherished his grandchildren immensely. His devotion to family was matched by his commitment to the community, exemplified by his service as the caretaker of Braden United Methodist Church and Walls Cemetery for over three decades.
James had a variety of interests that brought him joy, notably his love for baseball and mowing grass. He was a person who found happiness in simple pleasures and shared that joy with those around him. James Laverne "Rooster" Meadows will be remembered for his unwavering love, dedication to his family, and the positive impact he made on everyone he met. His spirit will remain a guiding light for his loved ones.
He leaves behind his wife, Martha Bowling Meadows, Braden, TN, one daughter, Cathy Meadows Bray, Bartlett, TN, one brother Johnny Meadows of Warner Robins, GA, and two sisters Sue Meadows Haley of Bartlett, TN, and Mary Opal Deen of Eads, TN. His legacy will continue through his grandchildren, Kaci Lane Johnson, Jared Tyler Johnson, Bryson Riley Meadows, and James Dylan Meadows, along with his great grandchildren, Lucas Michael York and Haisley Ann Meadows.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Francis Margaret Kirk Meadows; his daughter Vicki Lynn Meadows-Futrell; his brothers, Sonny Boy Meadows and David Meadows; and his sisters, Lorene Edlund and Faye Thornburg.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Braden United Methodist Church, 230 SR-59, Mason, TN 38049.
