Mr. James “Jimmy” Lee Bailey, age 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in his home in Bells, TN. A Memorial Gathering will be conducted on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Bells Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Jimmy was born on July 7, 1950, to the late R.C. and Frankie Dyer Bailey. He was the youngest of three children, including his brother, Glen Bailey, who preceded him in death; and his sister, Peggy Bailey Staggs, who resides in Brownsville, TN.
He proudly served in the United States Navy in 1969 and 1970, after which he worked as a long- haul truck driver and welder. He was known locally for his welding skills. On March 10, 1983, he married Terri Lovelace Bailey, who would be at his side for the next 43 years. With Terri, Jimmy had three children: Christopher Bailey (Shanna Foster) of Lexington, TN; Donnie Bailey (Alan Aguilar) of St. Louis, MO; and Jerry Bailey (Michelle Isbell) of Bells, TN. He was always “proud of my boys.”
Jimmy was always well-liked wherever he went. Armed with a sharp wit and a uniquely vibrant and infectious laugh, he spread smiles and made friends all over the country as he and Terri traveled in his later years.
He was always kind to animals. After he and Terri settled back in Bells, he was never found far from his favorite companion, “Frick.” Those who knew Jimmy best knew he had a curiosity and love of learning that shone through in his wide range of interests. He enjoyed a good science-fiction thriller just as much as a Clint Eastwood western or Ken Burns documentary, and in his children, he instilled his wonderful sense of humor, deep curiosity, and unselfish nature. With those lucky enough to call him a friend, he shared his love of fishing and the outdoors, as well as his knowledge and passion for music, politics, sports, history, literature, and nature.
He bravely faced death with dignity and honor, deciding to stay home with those whom he loved. Jimmy will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
