Horace Ray Whittington, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Haywood County Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Poplar Corner Baptist Church, with Bro. Eddie Mallonee officiating. Burial to follow in the Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Poplar Corner Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at 2:00 P.M.
Mr. Horace was born in Belmont, MS on April 1, 1936, to the late Emmitt Jefferson Whittington and Alice Hughes Whittington. He was a faithful member of the Poplar Corner Baptist Church. He proudly served as a Corporal in the Tennessee National Guard. Mr. Horace was a jack of all trades and loved to fix things and tinker. He could do it all-never needing to call a plumber or builder. He loved to travel and enjoyed his adventures out West with Mrs. Jessie. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Bobby Whittington and Paul Whittington.
He is survived by his wife of over 66 years: Jessie Elizabeth Choate Whittington; one son: Steven Whittington; one daughter: Sharon Crutcher; one brother: E.J. Whittington (Barbara); his friend and neighbor: Chris; five nephews; one step niece; He leaves a legacy of one grandson: John Russell Crutcher II (Isabel).
