Helen Thomas

Mrs. Helen Maria Thomas, age 88 passed away Friday, July 3, 2015 in the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 6, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. in the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Brownsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2015, 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. in the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home. Helen worked as a nurse for over fifty eight years. She got her clinical training from working with doctors taking care of civilians injured in the bombing raids in Czechoslovakia. She came to Brownsville in 1948, the bride of a soldier she met during the war. She begin working at Haywood County Memorial Hospital in 1951. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Marion "Calvin" Thomas. She is survived by two sons: Bob Thomas (Beckye), Knoxville, TN and John Thomas (Gay), Brownsville, TN; her sister: Vera Prunner, a brother in law: Lloyd Thomas (Janie), a sister in law: Marie Outlaw (Allen) and one grandson: Brandon Thomas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Brownsville Baptist Church, 5 N. Wilson Ave. Brownsville, TN 38012.
