Hazel Stoots Pittman, age 86, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at 7:30 AM at home, with her family surrounding her, following a brave and courageous battle with metastatic cancer. There will be a Memorial Service on January 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Shaws Chapel Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN. There will be a fellowship time with food following the service.
Hazel was born on November 11, 1938, to Roger and Edith Ferguson Stoots, in Brownsville, TN. She was known for unwavering spirit and deep love for her family. She spent her final months surrounded by her loved ones, creating cherished memories that will forever be treasured. Throughout her illness, she continued to radiate positivity, finding joy in the Lord and joy in the simple moments, inspiring those around her with her resilience and grace. Her legacy will be her love and dedication for God and her family. Her infectious laughter lit up every room she was in.
Hazel is survived by one daughter, Deborah Jones Wyatt (John) of Munford, TN; one grandson, Joseph Peppers (Marianne) of Brighton, TN; one granddaughter, Erica Jones Bishop of Memphis, TN; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Stoots Reasons (William Harvey) of Millington, TN; Vicky Stoots of Wills Point, TX; two brothers, James Stoots (Billie) of Brownsville, TN , and Larry Stoots (Becky) of Seymore, TN.
Hazel was preceded in death by her three husbands, Fred Jones, Therman Johnson and Larry Pittman; two daughters, Phyllis Jones Peppers and Glynda Jones Riley; one grandson, Rickey Peppers, Jr.; parents Roger and Edith Ferguson Stoots; two brothers, Harvey Stoots and Robert Stoots; and one sister, Frances Stoots Sorrell.
The family has requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
