Hayden's Obituary
Hayden Eugene "Gene" Miles of Bells passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
He was born December 13, 1946 in Tampa Florida to the late James Hayden Miles and Faye Elizabeth Permenter Miles. Mr. Miles always considered Bells, Tennessee his home and was a graduate of Bells High School Class of 1965. He graduated from Lambuth College in 1969 with a degree in Chemistry and received his Master’s Degree in Agriculture Science from Oklahoma State University. He worked for the University of Tennessee Extension Service as an agronomist, retiring after over thirty-five years of service. During his employment years, he enjoyed working with farm families and the farming industry in and around Dyer County. Mr. Miles was a faithful member of the Bells First United Methodist Church. He served as a board member of the Farm Service Agency for the United States Department of Agriculture and served our country in the Army National Guard. Mr. Miles was an avid horticulturist and enjoyed planting, growing, and maintaining many flowers and plants at his home.
Survivors include his brother, Sam Miles of Springville, niece, Sarah Elizabeth Miles Foy and husband Robert, of Dothan, Alabama and a nephew, Dr. Forrest Miles of Columbus, Georgia.
Serving as pallbearers are David Clement, Barry Yearwood, Charles Barry, Gene Permenter, Billy Brimm and Darrell Lowery.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Bells First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Belleview Cemetery. The Miles family will receive friends on Saturday, at the church, from noon until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Bells First United Methodist Church in memory of Mr. Miles.
