Gordon Charles Pfund, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2015. He was born on September 11, 1924, in Kendall, New York, near Rochester to George and Gertie Jackling Pfund.
A gracious gentleman, a man of great talent, wit, charm, and a dynamic salesman, who loved his Lord above all else, he treasured and loved his wife and best friend, Dianne Hamilton Pfund for 39 years. He was consistently proud, loving, and supportive to his many children and grandchildren: John Pfund (Sandy), Lisa; Douglas Pfund (Lynne) Chad, Corinne, Stacey, Benjamin, Stephen, Noah, Lee Gordon, Allison; Donald Pfund (Janet) Roy, Ashley, Amber; Melodie Pfund Phillips (John) Lauren, Meghan, Dillon; Carol Pfund Gates (Jeff) Molly, Perry; Wil Thompson; Jim Thompson (Stacy).
His musical career started at an early age, learning to play the accordion and later taking a few piano lessons from the church organist. After serving in WWII his involvement with Hammond Organ Company moved him from Texas to Chicago to New Orleans to Memphis where he owned and operated Pfund's Organs and Pianos until 1980. He then managed the Factory Outlet Mall in Memphis and the Morgantown (PA) Outlet Mall for Kemmons Wilson. He returned to the music business with his old friend Bob Hazard first at the Keyboard Place and then at Amro Music until his retirement in 2004.He was an active member of First Evan Church where he was in the choir until recently. In retirement his pleasure was in playing the organ for retirement homes and other senior groups throughout the city.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Wednesday, June 24, at Canale Funeral Directors, 2700 Union Avenue Extended. Graveside services will be 11am Thursday, June 25, at the Taylors of Tabernacle Family Cemetery in Brownsville, TN under the direction of Lea and Simmons Funeral Home.
