Gaylon was a devoted husband and a beloved son, father, brother and uncle. He took pride in his farming and trucking operation for 40 years. He was a loyal board member and volunteer firefighter at the Belle Eagle District 7 Fire Department. He had a passion for being outdoors, especially duck hunting with his late uncle, Jerry Alan Taylor. He was a faithful listener of Tomcat Football every Friday night. He was a friend to everyone he met and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He volunteered his hard work yearly at the Brownsville Tractor Pull until his health did not allow. Strong in his faith, he was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church, and dearly loved Camp meeting.
On March 17, 1979, he married the love of his life, farming partner, bookkeeper, and the best caretaker, Patricia. Together they shared 47 years of love that was undeniable. During those years they enjoyed raising a family on their farm in the Bethel Community, golf cart riding, and vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains. Gaylon was a devoted son and shared a special bond with his mother as they enjoyed gardening, construction work, and daily lunch dates at Jimmy’s together. Gaylon’s two daughters were the apple of his eyes. He was their biggest supporter and cheerleader, as he never missed a Kincaid show or softball game. He could not be more pleased with his two son-in-law’s who will proudly carry on his legacy. His love for his family is what drove him to be the fighter he was and most definitely finished strong.
He is preceded in death by his father Danny Joe Herron.
He is survived by his mother Peggy Jean Herron from Brownsville, TN; his brother Ronald “Ronnie” Wade Herron (Doris) from Paducah, KY. His wife, Patricia Harmon Herron; two daughters Emily Herron Littlejohn (Patrick) and Maggie Anne Herron (James Harris) all from Brownsville TN; a dear friend who he thought of as a sister, Tracy Young, from Stanton, TN; and a multitude of nieces, two nephews, a great-niece, and many great-nephews who dearly loved their Uncle Gaylon. He is also survived by his precious kidney donor, Elisha Poole Channell (Jeremy) of Covington, TN, who through her Gift of Life, a selfless act of love, gifted him 20 1/2 years of additional life!
