Finis F.B.'s Obituary Finis Bryant Sullivan, Jr. passed away January 20, 2011 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. He was born September 17, 1921 in Bells, TN, the youngest child of Vergie Lee White Sullivan and Finis B. Sullivan, Sr. F.B. was preceded in death by his mother, father and brothers: Nelson Sullivan and Mack Sullivan of Sacramento, CA; Clinton Sullivan of San Francisco, CA; sisters Clarice Spingath of Bakersfield, CA; Louise Raines of Bells, TN; one nephew, Roy Neal Raines; nieces Wavel and Ruth, and son-in-law, Dr. Barton K. O'Brien. F.B. graduated from Bells High School and entered the US Marine Corp, Camp Legune, NC in 1939. He served in the First Marine Division in Cuba in 1941. He fought in the South Pacific during World War II, fighting on Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester New Britain and Peleliu and was scheduled to deploy to Japan within two weeks when the atomic bomb was dropped ending the war. He was a self-employed farmer and contractor, and worked many years as a construction superintendent with Hardaway Construction Company. He leaves his wife, Ailene Williams Sullivan, whom he married December 13, 1944; one son, Curtis Sullivan and his wife Emily of Gadsden; granddaughter Ashley Dennis, her husband Rob and great-granddaughter Berkley Kate Dennis of Nashville; granddaughter Whitney Sullivan of Jackson; one daughter, Angela O'Brien of Jackson; grandson Bart O'Brien and great-granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth O'Brien of Oklahoma City, OK; and grandson Bret Sullivan O'Brien, his wife Julie and great-granddaughters Millie and Maggie O'Brien of Nashville, TN. Visitation for Mr. Sullivan will be Saturday, January 22 at the Bells Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 23 at the Gadsden First Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Terry Graves presiding. Burial will be in the family cemetery, Marlowe Cemetery in the Liberty Hall community.
