Evangeline Cowan

Evangeline Williams Cowan, 97 passed away in her home near Bells on Friday, January 24, 2025. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Bells Funeral Home, with Pastor Scott Floyd officiating and special words by Dr. Tony Emison. Burial to follow at the Marlowe Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Bells Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. until the service time at 11:00 A.M.

Evangeline was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Memphis in 1945 and retired as a Registered Nurse (RN) after 45 years serving Haywood, Crockett and Madison counties Public Health programs.

Evangeline was a member of Bells Methodist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by husband Jim, parents Plomer and Bessie Williams, sisters, Ailene, Joan, Peggy and Lynn, brothers Jim and Hiawatha.

Survived by her sister: Essonia Silvia of Jackson, TN; daughter: Pat Hendrix of Bells; son: Dan and wife Brenda of Bells. Four grandchildren: Josh Hendrix and wife Samantha of Bells, Rachel DeGroat and husband Robb of Bakers Mills, NY, Joseph Cowan and wife Kristin of Lakeland, TN, David and wife Stephanie of Gray, TN; Ten great grandchildren: Mason, Drue, Caden, Corbin and Timmy DeGroat, Morgan, Hadleigh, and Eli Cowan, Gabriel and Nathan Cowan; and many nieces and nephews.

Evangeline was also known as “Bannie”. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spoiled them all and said, “a full baby is a happy baby”! Her yard was always beautiful and is known for the many daffodils she planted along the roadside. She cared for many and had a contagious laugh.
