Emily Paige Lonon, age 31, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday Evening, August 6, 2019 at 5:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville, TN. Burial will follow at Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN. A visitation will be conducted on Tuesday Afternoon from 2:00 PM until service time at 5:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville.
Emily was born on November 29, 1987. She is survived by her parents, Travis and Brenda Lonon, Brownsville, TN, one brother, Trey Lonon (Caley) and one niece, Presley, Jackson, TN, two grandmothers, Mrs. Frances Austin and Mrs. Mary Patsy Lonon, both of Brownsville, TN. She was preceded in death by her Paternal Grandfather, Glenn Lonon and her Maternal Grandfather, Joe Austin. She was a 2006 graduate from University School of Jackson. Emily devoted her life to caring for the hearts of others. Emily’s nursing career began after graduating from Jackson State Community College with her Associates of Science Degree in Nursing in 2011. Her first nursing job was in the Coronary Care Unit at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital from 2011-2013. After moving to Nashville in the fall of 2013, Emily began her second nursing career at Centennial Medical Center in the Coronary Care Unit.
While working at Centennial, Emily went back to school and achieved her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2015. In addition to her responsibilities at Centennial, Emily also utilized her nursing skills at University Medical Center in Lebanon, TN as a critical care nurse. Emily was a leader among her peers and a vital part of a close-knit group of cardiac ICU nurses. She spent countless hours orienting, training, and educating new nurses to the CCU. Emily was a gifted nurse and had a passion for cardiac and critical care. Emily’s dedication to her field allowed her to become one of the first nurses to be chosen and trained as an ECMO specialist at Centennial. Throughout her time as a nurse, she cared deeply for her patients and their families in their most precious time of need.
Emily’s favorite color was “RED” and to honor her, the family is requesting persons attending to incorporate “RED” in your attire. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested Memorials be made to the Lymphoma Society, LLS, 404 BNA Drive, Suite 102, Nashville, TN 37217 or to the Sharon Pettigrew Nursing Scholarship Fund, 117 E. Franklin Street, Brownsville, TN 38012. Lea and Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
