James Edward “Ed” Thomason, age 73, of Brownsville, TN, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, December 20, 2021, at 12 noon at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. JP Moses officiating. Burial will follow at Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN. A Visitation for friends and family will be on Monday, December 20, 2021, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
Ed was born on December 23, 1947, in Haywood County. He was a police officer in Brownsville for many years, and later finished his career as the Chief of Police for the City of Mason, TN. He loved Brownsville and Haywood County, and also served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, traveling, and watching old westerns.
He was married to Pam Mason Thomason who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Allan Gilliland of Friendship, TN, and Matt Thomason of Frog Jump, TN; three daughters, Tammy Ballowe (Brett) of Kaufman, TX, Rena Wright (Tim) of Jonesboro, AR, and Chrissy Carl (Aaron) of Brownsville, TN; three sisters, Mary Louise Tucker of Brownsville, TN, Marty Fite of Humboldt, TN, and Barbara Robinson of Laurel, MS. He leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel F. Thomason and Beulah Austin Thomason; two brothers, Samuel “Sonny” Thomason and Michael Thomason; three sisters, Bessie Norwood, Evoynne Mathias, and Sylvia Hart.
Pallbearers for the service are Aaron Carl, Will Currie, Matthew Thomason, Jordan Thomason, Joshua Thomason, and Donnie King. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Mason and Charlie Greenway.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. All arrangements and services are under the direction of Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
