Dr. John Medley Smoot

Dr. John Medley Smoot, age 67 passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Crestview Rehabilitation and Rehab Center of Brownsville.

Dr. Smoot was born on January 2, 1950 in Haywood County to the late Jenifer Medley Smoot and Marjorie Waters Smoot. He was a brilliant Physician, lay pastor, friend to many and caring and kind to all. He loved orthopedics, ER and teaching.  His ministry and passion were for helping and healing others. Dr. Smoot had a servant’s heart and loved giving more than receiving. 

He loved his family!  Heather and his boys were his life.  He spoiled and loved them all.  Dr. Smoot suffered and fought demons of addiction and his struggles were real. He would want that said.  If his life story could save one addict, he would be proud.

He is survived by two sons:  John Medley Smoot Jr. of Collierville, TN and Robert Lee Smoot of Southaven, MS; one daughter:  Heather Smoot Holden (Danny) of Hernando, MS; one brother:  James Lee Smoot (Jennifer) of Brownsville, TN; one sister:  Jennifer Smoot Coulston (David) of Brownsville, TN and two grandchildren:  Madison Darby White and Caden Holden.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home with Franklin Smith officiating.  Burial to follow in the Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Visitation for the Smoot family will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home.
