Dorothy Ann's Obituary
Ms. Dorothy Ann Matthews age 76 of Brownsville, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born April 13, 1942 in McNairy County to the Virginia Haralson Matthews and the late J.B. Matthews.
Dorothy Ann graduated from Haywood High School and furthered her education, graduating from Union University with a Bachelor’s Degree. She received her Master’s Degree from Bethel University. Ms. Matthews retired from teaching from the Haywood County School System after thirty-eight years. She was a Beta Club sponsor at Haywood County High School for twenty-five years. Ms. Matthews was a member of ADK, a teacher’s sorority, HCEA, TEA and NEA. She was a life-long member of Brownsville Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, T.B. and Clara Stewart Haralson.
Survivors include her mother, Virginia Haralson Matthews of Brownsville; sister, Mary Jane Forrest Call of Brownsville; two nephews, Nathan Call (Mattie) of Kingsport and Lance Call (Jody) of Correyton; great nephew, Isaac Call of Kingsport and great niece, Clara Call of Correyton.
Serving as pallbearers Nathan Call, David Call, Lance Call, Tommy Call, Eddie Stewart and Jack Clinard.
Funeral services for Ms. Matthews will be conducted Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Brownsville Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Connerley officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
