Dorothy's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy W. Bruce age 95 of Whiteville, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at her residence.
She was born December 15, 1920 in Madison County to the late Will Whorton and Ethel Droke Whorton. She worked for many years at Wells Lamont Glove Factory, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Bruce in 1972, her brother Virgil Whorton, a sister Louise Lewis and son-in law Monroe Jordan.
Mrs. Bruce is survived by five sons: Robert Bruce and wife Carolyn, John Bruce and wife Penny, Terry Bruce and wife Marilyn, Ronald Bruce and wife Elaine and Donald Bruce and wife Debbie; two daughters: Betty Staggs and husband Kenneth and Patsy Jordan and one sister, Billie Jean Kirkland. Other survivors include 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren,13 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy W. Bruce, will be conducted on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with the pastor, Bro. Jerry Wilson officiating. Brownsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery. The Bruce family will receive friends on Saturday, at the church from Noon until the service hour.
The family has requested that any memorials be directed to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church or to the Cemetery Fund. Read More Read Less
