Demetra Faye Pratt, affectionately known as "Dee," passed away peacefully at her home in Collierville, Tennessee, on April 22, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on March 2, 1950, in Alamo, Tennessee, she dedicated her life to caring for others, particularly as a Registered Dietician. A visitation for Dee will take place at Brownsville Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN, on April 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Scott Alford. Burial will follow at Brownsville Memorial Gardens.
Dee was a visionary in the field of nutrition and dietetics as many dietitians can attest. The number of "firsts" in her career were numerous including piloting the first congregate meal program for Tennessee, which later became the MIFA meals program, the first to receive reimbursement from insurance companies for nutrition services and one of the first private practices in the country to provide tele-nutrition services. She was a mentor to many and volunteered on the district, state, and national level in her field. For these and many more accomplishments, she was honored with the prestigious Medallion Award in 2018 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Dee was a loving family member who cherished her relationships with those around her. She is survived by her two brothers, Bobby Pratt (Lanette) of Brownsville, TN, and Dr. Charles Pratt (Linda) of Somerville, TN. Dee's affection extended deeply to her five nieces and nephews: Janet Ward, John Pratt (Anne-Marie), Amy Spotts (Mike), Tammy Barr (Jake), and Jason Pratt (Anna). In addition to her immediate family, she also embraced her role as an aunt, being a nurturing presence to her nine great nieces and nephews: Brent Ward (Sarah), Lane Ward, Riley Rose (Jordan), Cam Barr, Phil Pratt, Dylan Spotts (BethAnn), Ethan Spotts (Kristin), Moriah Pratt, and Jeremiah Pratt. Dee's legacy continues through her one great great nephew, Will Ward, and her cherished sister-in-law, Sandra Pratt.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, William L. and Annie Mozella Abernathy Pratt; a brother, William O. Pratt; and a sister, Virginia Brandt and her husband, Karl. The love she had for her family and friends remains an everlasting memory, as she was a constant source of support and inspiration in their lives.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jake Barr, Brent Ward, Lane Ward, Phil Pratt, Jordan Rose and Clark Pennington.
Demetra Faye Pratt will be remembered for her gentle spirit, dedication to her profession, and most importantly, the love she shared with her family. Her life touched many, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her. The family requests any memorials be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
