David Sills

Mr. David Elbert Sills, 66 passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 11 AM in the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 5-7 PM in the Lea and Simmons Funeral Home. He was a graduate of Memphis State University, upon graduation he was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in both Active Duty and the Reserves, during which time he achieved the rank of Major. In later years, he used his journalism degree and wrote for various West Tennessee newspapers, where he especially enjoyed covering sporting events and human interest stories. He was preceded in death by his father: Elbert Pershing Sills. He is survived by his mother: Zora Nell Smith Sills, Brownsville, TN; his son: John David Sills, Smyrna, TN; his sister: Dorothy Sills Jackson (Dan) Brownsville, TN and two nieces: Ashley Jackson Simmons, Brownsville, TN and Laura Jackson, Richardson, TX. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Disabled American Veterans Headquarters, 3680 South Mendenhall Dr., Memphis, TN 38115.
