Daniel McRae Powell of Jackson passed away suddenly on July 18, 2020, at his family home in rural Haywood County. He was 41 years of age.
Daniel was born in Jackson on October 13, 1978, to Thomas Larry Powell and Christine Hélène Tiffany (Powell). A 1997 graduate of Fayette Academy in Somerville, TN, he was united in marriage to Christina Dugas in 2016. Together, they were the proud parents of twin sons, Ryker and Atlas. Daniel worked as sales representative for Powell & Powell Enterprises, enjoyed landscaping in his spare time, and attended Love & Truth Church in North Jackson.
Daniel had a passion for life and delighted in the natural world from childhood. He was a self-taught expert on roses, and he enjoyed vegetable gardening and studying ornamental trees. He simply loved to be outdoors, whether hunting for edible mushrooms, tending the family garden, or planting a new rose bush or tree.
He had a quick, keen, intelligent mind, a delightful and mischievous sense of humor, and was a deep thinker from the time he was five years old. His speech was articulate and precise, and he could express his thoughts and feelings almost poetically. Whatever mattered to him, mattered to him deeply. There was nothing simple or superficial about him.
Daniel's heart was full of love for his family and friends. He loved and honored his parents. He adored his wife Christina and his two young sons. His beautifully open, tender, and heartfelt worship of God and His Word were a powerful and inspiring testimony to his parents, wife, friends, and colleagues.
There is a new and shining golden star in the firmament, where Daniel's spirit rejoices in the presence of the Lord.
Daniel is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas Watkins, Jr., and Enid Wilson Powell; maternal grandparents, Charles and Hélène Tiffany; maternal uncles, Daniel and Dean Tiffany; and paternal uncle, Wilson Powell.
In addition to his parents, wife and young sons, Daniel is survived by maternal aunt, Charlene Tiffany Horst (and husband Carl); paternal aunts, Peggy Ann Powell Norville (widow of Rex Norville), Mary Olive Powell Dalglish, Alice Powell McClanahan (and husband Edward), Dorrie Johnson Powell (widow of Wilson Powell); and numerous cousins.
Because of current health concerns, the family will hold a private memorial service at a later time with the assistance of Lea & Simmons Funeral Home of Brownsville, TN. Memorials may be sent to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Trust, C/O Danny Watson, 1234 Hillville Loop, Whiteville, TN, 38075, or to the donor’s charity of choice.
